A tool to achieve more WOW
"In the digital age, the greatest capital lies in the employees," says one of Germany's largest asset managers, Commerz Real – and it actively strives to create a sustainably innovative corporate culture that promotes its competitiveness and innovative ability. Within the past two years, the company has developed into a highly dynamic organization with an in-house start-up culture.
Commerz Real developed a strategic vision for this: CR WOW. Not least of all, WOW stands for the feeling Commerz Real wants to evoke in each and every one of its more than 700 employees. From the very beginning, it was clear that cultural and digital transformation are closely linked. And therefore at the heart of this process was a contemporary intranet that is communicative, super-social and responsive – and appropriately christened Com.In, a name which was arrived at by means of a company-internal competition. On the one hand, it serves as an open ear for the workforce because every message also requires some corresponding feedback. On the other hand, it is also a tool for documenting small as well as very large successes – and such is essential for purposes of information, collaboration and knowledge management.
UEBERBIT has been an "in cahoots" partner with those responsible for this process. All along the strategic road map, we have jointly developed ideas that motivate and connect the workforce. Our team also sees WOW as the "sense of belonging" experienced when working in the intranet.
The Drupal-based Com.In functions as a "front-door intranet", i.e. it provides central access to the digital workplace of employees. The system is flexible and always extremely user-friendly when integrating individual, specialized applications. The intranet also offers innovative extras for knowledge management, such as a question-and-answer tool that is based on the gutefrage.net platform. Such extras complement and provide the intranet with the necessary user acceptance. The expert search helps to find and contact colleagues – even across departmental and branch office boundaries.
Its development focused on the user
Just as the content of the intranet is strictly oriented to the needs of the employees, we also develop and optimize functions and interfaces with an exclusive focus on the users. We use all available techniques to analyze user behavior and continuously adapt offers and functions accordingly.
Our design team contributes to WOW with great passion both on a large scale, such as the design of a friendly, congenial interface, as well as in the little details, such as lovingly designed badges which employees can award to each other.
From the very onset, the Commerz Real intranet was designed as an agile platform. In addition to always covering current requirements, it simultaneously also accompanies the company's ongoing transformation. Using Drupal 8, we have created the technological basis for co-developing the system over the long term. The joint list of ideas is long, and the cooperation together is now routine practice. We don't know exactly what the intranet will offer in the next few years, but we are sure that it will lead to yet another WOW for everyone involved.
